Autumnal Equinox Wine Tasting Minutes
| ||
Dionysians and Friends,
Thanks for helping us welcome the autumnal equinox with
a small river of wine. The tasting of Italian varietals
proved to be good wholesome fun for the whole family.
Special thanks to Justin and Hog Island for providing
a few dozen oysters, Donna for the prosciutto and melon,
and Kathy B. for the fagioli e insalata Caprese.
In the cheese department, the sole non-Italian offering,
Prima Donna (catchy name, eh?), was devoured. The Raschera
and Testun Nebbiolo were also winners; alas, the Ricotta Salata
was deemed too dry and salty (hell, I didn't realize it was
meant for grating).
In the wine department, here's the rundown, for reference:
- Moscato d'Asti (Elio Perrone 2005)
- Roero Arneis (Cascina Ca'rossa 2005)
- Langhi Arneis (Pio Cesare 2004)
- Chianti Rufina (2003 "Fattoria Selvapiana")
- Veronese (Allegrini 2001 "Palazzo della Torre" )
- Rubicone (Umberto Cesare "Liano") 30/70 Cab/Sangiovese
- Toscano (Frescobaldi 2004 "Tenuta di Castiglioni") 70/30 C/S
- Ripassa Valpolicella Superiore (Zenata 2003)
- Barberesco (Abbona 2000)
- Barolo (Pio Cesare 2001)
- Brunello di Montelcino (Vitanza 1997)
Pretty good coverage, though lots of things we missed,
like Barbera. Fret not, there will be other opportunities...
Meanwhile, the "twelfth man", a bottle of Prosecco, is still
chilling in my fridge just looking for an excuse to be consumed.
Enablers wanted.
Looking forward, we hope to implement a Chaos Reduction Program.
This will chiefly entail acquiring some baby-sitting resources
for the next event; ideally, off-site.
Always looking for new venues, so drop me a note if you've got
something appropriate (or entirely inappropriate) in mind.
