Winter Solstice Wine Tasting Minutes
2006-12-22

Greetings,

Thanks to all who participated in the Dionysian Club
winter solstice wine tasting last month. 'Twas a round success.
Apologies for the late minutes, but it's been a busy holiday season.

For the record, we tasted, nay... quaffed from the following vintages:

Quincy, Domaine du Tremblay - Loire 2005
Chateau La Baronne - Corbieres 2002
Domaine de L'Hortus - Pic Saint Loup 2003
La Cabotte - Cote du Rhone 2004
Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) - Bordeaux 2002
Domaine Les Palliers - Gigondas 2003
Chateau Saint-Valentin (Grand Cru) - Saint Emilion 1997
Chateau Giscours (Grand Cru) - Margaux 2003

Tasting notes, alas, were recorded only in ephemeral conversations.

Special thanks to Mona at Mona's Table who provided us with a warm
environment and comforting appetizers... both to complement the wine:

- Gravlax on pumpkin blini pancake w/beet salsa & creme fraiche
- Mushroom cake w/morney sauce & herbed salt
- Brie saffron puff pastry w/kumquat chutney
- Poached pear, walnut pesto, cambazola cheese flatbread

...and to soak it up:
- Stir fried wasabi noodles w/pea sprouts in mini-chinese boxes
- Shrimp w/watercress lime sauce in wonton cones

Most tasty. Thanks also to everyone that pitched in $10 (or more)
for Mona's efforts. Much appreciated.

Be aware that the next full moon is Friday, February 2nd -- and
another tasting is in order. Location and time to be announced.
Note that the second coincides with Groundhog Day. Looks to be
an auspicious occassion indeed.

Also, stay tuned, Dionysians, for the Feast of Lupercalia is
almost upon us. Move over Saint Valentine -- it's time to put
the februa back in February. Background for the uninitiated here:

Not sure exactly what we'll have in store for that occassion,
but I want it to be something special.

And speaking of special occassions, I wish you all the best
on this Martin Luther King Day.
