Full Moon Wine Tasting
| ||
Dionysians and Friends, Many of you have recent memories of our Bocce Ball event, but before I attend to that, there is some old Pinot Noir business to recount. To all of those that participated in the Full Moon Fete at Ronnie's loveloft: Thanks for coming out. And to those that missed, 'tis a shame, fora good volume and variety of Pinot was quaffed, along with some very tasty treats. Special thanks to Chris Price for cooking up some Spanish goodness,Carol for a lovely array of appetizers, and Leslye for buying glasses atthe last minute when I missed the rental deadline. Thanks also to Sir Ronnie for hosting, for introducing me to the good folks at Premier Cru, and for sharing the '72 Volnay. The full list of wines is unavailable since, once again, the bottleswere unceremoniously disposed. Nonetheless, a partial list follows: Londer 2005? Estate Grown, Anderson Valley Verve 2004 Sonoma Coast Cambria 2003 Santa Maria Valley Kenwood 2002? Russian River Valley Beaune, Clos du Roi, Henri Boillot 2005 Gevrey-Chembertin, Bachelet 2003 Pommard Epenots, Girardin 2002 Nuit-Saint-George 2001 Chassure-Montrachet 1998? ...the rest elude me... The theme you might recall was California Pinots vs French Burgundy. If memory serves, the California offerings generally had brighter fruit, but the enigmatic charms of the french Burgundies largely won the evening. Really, though, we all came out winners. It is now July and we're hoping to get in another wine drinking event before the month's end. There have been some private gatherings of Dionysians of late: OysterFest @ Marshall Beach (7/7), Viktor's Bastille Day Birthday bash (7/14). Now, a more public assembly is in order. Questions or suggestions? Give me a buzz.
