Greetings Earthlings, In a moment... melliflous meanderings on the merits of meat & malbec. Meanwhile... Note that TOMORROW is the Summer Solstice (not to mention the longest day of the year;-) Virtually any astronomical event is suitable cause for glass of fermented grape juice -- and the solstice cries for celebration more than most. Technically, we have a Dionysian Club, ahem... "Board Meeting" scheduled for this date.* And in keeping with our puncitilious administration and rigorous adherence to documented procedure, we will be playing bocce ball. Yes, our return to the Lincoln Park bocce ball courts will take on the tone of extremely understated elegance. White linens not required, but can only be encouraged. Any young mothers and others that would like to hang out with a few special members are encouraged to come. Bring a refreshment or a nosh or just a smile and a firm handshake. Very casual. This one is free and easy and kid friendly. We'll start rolling around 6PM ...and go 'til darkness is upon us. Returning to last weekends festivities... Let me just note that sunshine and happiness reigned. 'Twas a beautiful day with beautiful people that started slow, but came on strong. Not many wine drinkers at the noon hour for some reason, but a steady crowd through the afternoon and into the evening. Sheik Ronnie, adorned in flowing robes and thoughts, bid all welcome to his sculpture shack out back. Ebullience, provocation, and curvilinearity were manifest. Representing for Alameda Realty and good people everywhere, Chris P. lead the culinary charge, preparing six tri-tips and four roast chickens and rounding out the offerings with a lovely cucumber salad and moroccan rice. A most worthy and welcome Dionysian effort. As usual, the initially imposing gastronomic bounty was progressively laid to waste by Dionysian appetites. We kicked off the hot day with a cold & refreshing vinho verde (Famega, 2006). Delightfully refreshing. (I'll bring more tomorrow). Mere words could not do justice to Lord Chesnut's opening remarks, but for further reference material on Malbec, let me direct your attention to this thing they call The Internet. Or try Karen McNeil's Wine Bible: recommended. On the main tasting menu, we had the following four Malbec courses: Clos La Coutale 2006 - Cahors Achaval-Ferrer Malbec 2004 - Mendoza Sur Malbec Reserva - 2006? Mendoza Mas Malbec 2006 - Mendoza Afterwards, we tucked into a a number of fine bottles, brought to the table by our beneficent membership. Don't have the bottles handy for reference, but I'd like to thank Mr. Manchego, the Lone Wolf, Mona, John B... and whoever I'm missing for bringing them. All gone. Rest assured, they went to good use. I could go on, but I must get back to work now. Hope to see a few of you fine peoples tomorrow. .
