Noble Dionysians, After two years and 21 wine tasting events, we have finally tapped the beneficence of our members for explicitly charitable purposes. I am happy to say that, with the addition of the $200 Club subsidy, we were able to direct $500 to the SmartMoves after-school programs of the East Oakland Boxing Association. Not bad, for enjoying tasty wine, food, and conversation and not really trying too hard. Bonus: Our donation will be matched (doubled), courtesy of the East Bay Community Foundation. We should really drink for youth more often. Special thanks are in order for the fine folks at Lost Canyon Winery, particularly Kristie, who in additon to initiating the idea, donated four bottles of an excellent 2007 Russian River vintage. Many thanks also to co-owner Randy, who generously contributed selections from the Lost Canyon library. High marks to you both for these additional subsidies; just the kind of liquidity this market needs. Finally, to our sponsors, old and new, thanks (again): http://feelgoodbakery.com/ http://culinamarketplace.com/ Perusing the Pinot Noir tasting menu, recall if you can... # from Russian River and Carneros Lost Canyon 2007 Tayerle 2006 Carneros # from Oregon's Williamette valley Domaine Serene (Yamhill) Cristom # from the odd bottles department Bruno Colin 2004 Burgundy Gevrey-Chambertin 2005 Burgundy Ventana (Souther California) Brandenborg Umpqua (Southern Oregon) # from the library (more Russian River goodies) Lost Canyon 2006 Widdoes vineyard Lost Canyon 2004 Lost Canyon 2001 Our critical work exploring the culinary and enological universe and spreading good cheer could not be done without the support of fine people like you. Please continue to offer up your bodies, minds, and good spirits in service of Dionysian services. Next year, we'll likely have fewer events, but we're looking to go bigger -- and we'll need to tap your many and varied talents for event production. Meanwhile, let us give thanks for our bounty with a toast to the holiday season. 'Tis time to bust out the sequins and gold lamee... Cheers, all. P.S. Note that on December 6th, I'll be showing folks around at the East Oakland Boxing Association during their holiday Open House from 2-5PM. Please come on down if you can (98th Ave & San Leandro Blvd). We're doing great work in a less than great neighborhood... and it's worth supporting. Note that later that same evening, I'll be tasting wine at the Autobody Gallery gala dinner. There's fine art and revelry worth supporting there, too. Check it out. .
